"The features of the characters, their free and easy movements, rather rare in sixteenth-century portraiture, lend the picture qualities which are rich in human emotions. Indeed, with fresh and fluid brushwork the artist disclosed minute characteristics of the characters, yet, at the same time, opened up broad pictorial perspectives. This work is a veritable ""Chorus of Portraits"" and belongs to the most profound creations of Italian painting. Along with those fellow-artists worthy of him, Titian created pure synthesis without severing the links that connected him with the noblest traditions of Venetian painting."
